Welcome back from your Labor Day Holiday or three week vacation abroad. Are you wondering what happened while you were gone? If you use RSS or Really Simple Syndication, all of the news would be waiting for you in your news reader. If you don't use RSS, then you'll have to go to your favorite websites and reconstruct what happened. Not very efficient and wastes time and money.
If you learn anything from this post, it will be what the meaning of this orange icon is. It denotes an RSS feed. And it is an important tool in surviving in this fast paced energy arena we live and work in. Go ahead and click it and you will get an idea of how content is presented to you.
Although every energy company and organization has a website, very few are using RSS or Really Simple Syndication to share information. As a result, many energy professionals are still working in the dark ages and constantly checking websites for the latest information. RSS changes all of that and it's virtually free.
To get an idea of how RSS can benefit you, I’ve provided a quick video entitled "RSS in Plain English." It’s less than 4 minute, but I guarantee you will be 100 percent better off after listening to it. The video is in English but you can select a language and creae subtitles. .
What does RSS have to do with Energy?
Every industry is being asked to share information and to communicate better with their customers and stakeholders. The Energy Industry is no exception. The growth of the internet and decreased cost of information technology have enabled what a few years ago was impossible.
My vision of an RSS world with energy feeds is contained in the PowerPoint Presentation entitled RSS for Energy Professionals. Once you click on this link, just tap your space bar to go through the presentation.
If you want to printout, just download download it [PDF]
My next post will discuss how the Energy Sector is using RSS. I'd be happy to discuss RSS offline with anyone interested.
Thanks. Nora.
